A princess danced on the beach today,
exulting under a clear blue sky.
She kicked off her slippers and flexed her toes
allowing her feet to fly.
Spinning and twirling she slipped away
down the lighted road across the sea,
scattering salt water up into the air
alone, alive and free.
Empty and sodden her slippers now rest.
The days of their pomp have passed.
They lie there and wait for the sound of her feet
on the day she returns at last.
