The Empty Beach.

A familiar space.
Where you may think and heal.
An expanse of emptiness
Where you can lose yourself.
A place where people
Recede into the distance
Along with your burdens
And give you space
To breathe.

A long stretch of calm
To fill with your own thoughts.
A sweep of magnificence
Which enfolds you in its beauty.
A place where you can
Examine your past
Place it carefully on the sand
And bury it
With no marker.

An oasis of freedom
Which is outside time.
A silent companion
With nothing to ask.
A place of acceptance
Where you can be who you are
And give no explanation
Because it simply
Doesn’t care.

Doesn’t care … yes, well it doesn’t judge..
A good subject. I have often thought that .. a stage, a canvas, a thing to think on to.. Peter Maxwell Davies spoke about writing his symphonies on the beach mentally mapping them out on the sea to get their structure.. nature is a great midwife.. xx
