Chilingirian Quartet. Stephen Joseph Theatre Scarorough. 12-11-07

Haydn. Quartet in E flat. Op.64 No.6
Bartok. Quartet No.4
Schubert. Quartet in G. D.887

It is always lovely to hear live chamber music in a venue which suits it as well as the SJT and there have been some stunning concerts there in the last few years. This was not one of the most sparkling but it was still well worth the price and the first violin, Leon Chilingirian, played beautifully. Could have done without the Bartok, which a rather patronising posh lady described to me as “challenging”.Sitting through it was the price you had to pay for hearing some lovely Haydn and Schubert as far as I’m concerned
